During my own search for relief from chronic pain, I tried it all: doctors, chiropractors, massage therapy, heat therapy, cold therapy, physical therapy, medication, stretching, yoga. Well, you get it. If you are here, chances are you know exactly what I am talking about.
My own story includes years of suffering from chronic neck pain with no real diagnosis. That was the frustrating part. I just wanted someone to tell me once and for all why my neck was hurting. It turns out that not getting a diagnosis was a blessing in disguise for me. Since I had no physical problem to blame my pain on, I continued to look for answers. I wanted to be rid of the pain more than I wanted to know what caused it.
After about 16 years in chronic, sometimes debilitating pain, I finally found a cure that worked. The answer lied not outside of myself, but inside myself. I learned about how our Western medical theories separate the mind from the body – any physical symptom is treated as a disease that befalls us and that we have nothing to do with. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are an animal. Your mind and your body are one. Even though the majority of your bodily functions are seemingly out of your control (being run by the autonomic systems that we have) your mind is still ultimately in control of the overall survival and health of your body.
I learned that our thoughts are creating our health or our dis-ease. Not intentionally, but accidentally. Every negative thought that we have turns into stress in our bodies, which eventually turns into dis-ease. This can come in many forms: frequent colds and flu due to a suppressed immune system from stress, or degenerative diseases like diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, or MS.
Learning to change your thought patterns will not only reverse disease, but will keep you healthier down the road. Additionally, starting to learn how your negative thoughts affect your entire being can be the beginning of a spiritual awakening in your that may completely change your life.
